Rain continued to pour down in part of the Midwest, especially for residents in Cedar Rapids Iowa, who are already feeling the wrath of Mother Nature. Thousands of families have already abandoned their homes due to water from the Cedar River overflowing into streets. The river is expected to crest tomorrow to 21 and half feet, the highest in nearly a century. The community has already received help from the National Guard and thousands of volunteers who help make sand bags. They are pulling out all the stops in hopes of minimizing the damage.
"There are preparations now underway in Cedar Rapids that will prepare us for, if necessary, a 500-year flood projection. So we're talking about unprecedented efforts here that are going to be necessary,"said Governor Chet Culver.
Officials in both Missouri and Illinois have been notified that due to the heavy rainfall the Mississippi River is expected to crest 10 feet above flood stage in the next two weeks.
