Mid-morning strong, heavy winds brought down trees and power lines, mostly in southwest and southeast Rockford, but including New Milford and Cherry Valley; mostly along the US 20 Bypass corridor. While Com-Ed works to restore power, city crews are busy removing trees and limbs from roadways. There are no reports of any injuries.
Meanwhile, several schools and daycare centers are closing for the day. Dennis Early Childhood Center cancelled afternoon classes and Sky View Center also is without power and students there were sent home.
Riverdahl and Cherry Valley elementary schools are operating with limited power by backup generators until power is restored, which is expected early afternoon.
Power was restored at Jefferson High School and New Milford Elementary School, where power had been knocked out by the storm.
