Whether it's a new car, a couch , even church, there's a common thread in the marketing tactics to get you hooked. The bait, saving money where the numbers just keeping going up. "They're trying to address the prices of gas costs that's everyone's experiencing," Dan Milner said. Milner is one of the managers at Jack Wolf Chrysler Jeep where the cost of gas is advertised for $2.99 a gallon. What does that mean? Well if you buy a new car there, Chrysler will pay the difference beyond $2.99 for up to 12,000 miles each for a 3-year period. So far the incentive is 'turning heads.' "People are constantly calling on the phone, inquiring about it," Milner said. Over at Slumberland Furniture in Rockford, they'll dangle this $50 mail-in gas rebate to customers this Saturday only. Spend at least $399 dollars around the store and put the deal "to bed." There also appears to be a calling from God to help drivers. "Basically if you do the drive, we'll pay for the ride," Pastor Tom Linderman said. He invites new faces to come by Belvidere Central Middle School where Grace Point Community Church meets. They're offering gas cards to ease the pain at the pump and try to expand their congregation. "This might be just the incentive to get families to come out and try a new church," Linderman said. Linderman's not sure what the response will be yet but he's just praying numbers like these will fill up the middle school lunchroom...Turned church....on Sunday. Pastor Linderman says the gas card up for grabs on Sunday will cover at least a gallon of gas. And depending on the success, he may try it again this summer when gas prices are expected to soar even more.
