It took negotiation after negotiation, six in total, to finally get teachers and school reps. to come to an agreement in Winnebago.
The teachers have been working without a contract since August. To show there solidarity they were recently coming to school 15 minutes before the bell rang and leaving 15 minutes after, no exceptions. Negotiators say even though the process was long they are proud of the outcome, and proud of how the situation was handled.
The details of the agreement have not yet been released. The specifics will come out when both sides give their final stamp of approval. Each side of the table believes that even though the road was a long and bumpy one, there was just the right amount of give and take.
After putting all the pieces in place, it looks like the idea of striking has now been stricken down. The teachers met Friday Nov. 11 to ratify the agreement. The board of education meets Tuesday Nov. 15.
