A familiar sound usually only heard during the holiday season will be ringing loud and clear: in September.
The salvation Army of Winnebago County will hold a Kettle Drive the next two weekends at Rockford’s four Logli supermarkets as well as at Woodmans.
The kettles, and their ringers, will pull in money for Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief.
The area's Salvation Army is looking to raise $75,000 for relief.
Right now, they are at $43,000 and volunteers hope the early Kettle Drive will help them meet their goal.
"The bell is used to call attention to the needs of others and we thought what better way to call the attention of the needs of the Katrina victims by using our little bell and having people donate to the little red kettle," volunteer coordinator Norma Baker said.
The kettle drive will go on from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 and 10, and Friday Sept. 16 and 17.
They are looking for Salvation Army kettle ringers. You can contact Norma Baker at (815) 962-7207.
