We all know the next three months will be busy but there might be more to take part in than just the hustle and the bustle of the holiday season. Hiring signs are exactly what we like to see and for the next couple of months “Now Hiring” and “Help Wanted” should help end the year on a positive note.
Ginnie Weckerly with Manpower says ‘Employers are more confident this year than last year.”
Throughout October, November and December expect to see more than just the usual holiday hiring. In a recent Manpower survey 30% of the companies interviewed plan to hire.
Weckerly says, "Service and manufacturing that’s what we are seeing this year when last year that wasn’t an option. Special trades are growing and CNC Operators are needed it's the very specialized trades that are needed in this market."
And it's true. Just open your local paper and turn to the help wanted section. Manufacturing and medical jobs just jump out at you. Johnson Controls in Sycamore is one of those companies ready recruit new employees. The company is supplying seating for the Daimler-Chrysler plant. That means up to 180 new jobs. What's also unique about this time of the year is that construction jobs aren't ending during the winter months. With the new Winnebago County Jail and the Lowe's Distribution Center and plenty of other opportunities opening soon there is no such thing as a dull day. The city of Rockford says even more good news will be coming in the next six months. By that time we should know who plans to build around the Lowe's distribution center. It's that old saying if they build it they will come.
Johnson Controls is having a job fair this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can apply for jobs at the Northern Illinois University Outreach Center. That is located at 8500 East State Street in Rockford.
