It's been 30 years since a democratic governor presided over the state of Illinois. Monday morning democrat Rod Blagojevich will take the oath of office--the first democratic governor since Dan Walker in 1973.
The new governor offers a breath of fresh air, replacing a governor who many are happy to see going. Many in both parties' disliked Gov. George Ryan.
Gov. Blagojevich also faces many challenges including a campaign full of promises and a huge debt to contend with.
How he juggles his pledge not to raise taxes while at the same time, tries to make good on campaign promises will go a long way toward determining how long a democrat will be in charge in Springfield. The new governor may offer some clues this morning after he takes the oath of office. 23 News will be in Springfield for the inauguration.
