Reagan Dispute

A dispute has erupted over the worth of Ronald Reagan's boyhood home in Dixon, Illinois.

Private appraisals contracted by the U.S. Interior Department put the fair market value of the real and personal property at $420,000.

The chairman of a foundation that owns and runs the home says the estimate should be between $3 million and $5 million.

President Bush signed a bill last year intended to make the home a national historic site. The legislation authorized the government to acquire the home at fair market value and from a willing owner only.

The Ronald Reagan Boyhood Foundation chairman Norman Wymbs says he is confident the foundation's board will reject the government's offer of $420,000.
