More and more people are using another way to get around the Stateline. Rockford Mass Transit District is reporting growth in the number of bus riders. In July there was an increase of 10 percent over last year. In August it was up 17 percent. A spokeswoman for Rockford Mass Transit says she believed it's because of gas prices.
A gallon of gas costs $2.71, but a bus ticket is just $1 with free transfers. She says people from all walks of life are using the bus to save money.
