It's the ultimate win-win situation. Hundreds of new jobs are on the way for southwest Rockford at a Lowe’s Distribution Center. And to make way for those jobs at this mammoth facility, hundreds of additional construction jobs are literally paving the way.
This was the explosive scene Monday afternoon, as this huge job continues. Rockford Blacktop, based out of Loves Park, is the project's first construction team. From now until December 15, workers will move the dirt, and put in the storm sewer. The job means a lot of drivers, and a lot of trucks. A combined 60 workers, about 40 in the day and about 20 at night, grind away on the Lowe’s site. The project's foreman says the project is on good schedule if the weather stays relatively dry. Once Rockford Blacktop finishes their work, a Park Ridge construction company will take over as the project's general contractor.
The Lowe’s Distribution Center is expected to be completed and ready for business in early 2007. Company leaders are hopeful the facility will eventually expand, which could bring the job total at the facility from 500 to about 750 when all is said and done.
