Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is doling out $10 million worth of cooling grants. Seniors, the disabled, homeless and families with small children are eligible. Those with medical conditions that might be aggravated by extreme heat can also apply for assistance. The grant money will be used to help those who qualify pay their energy bills.
Agencies throughout Northern Illinois began accepting applications Monday. Applications will be accepted through August 12th. For more information about this LIHEAP program call 1-800-252-8643 during normal business hours Monday – Friday. Information is also available at www.liheapillinois.com.
