Today the Rockford Airport announced the largest tour operator in Mexico will fly to a new location out of Rockford.
Starting in January, Funjet Vacations is launching non-stop service to Cancun twice a week and Puerto Vallarta once a week. The company had been in talks with airport officials for two years, discussing the possibility of this partnership.
Three-night packages to Cancun will sell for $599. Seven-night packages for Puerto Vallarta are $799. The tickets on there own will start at $199 to either location. The vice president of Funjet says new flights rarely start selling out, so there is some work to do.
The airport plans on putting $100,000 solely into marketing for the Funjet flights. The flights will be running from January 26 until April 16, but if the flights are extremely popular, year round service is a possibility.
