Improving transportation in Rockford took center stage at Monday night's city council meeting.
The agency in charge of transportation planning for Winnebago and Boone counties is getting a facelift. The group will reorganize its leadership, expand and hopefully move to a new center.
They're also looking to get much more community input on what we want out of rail and other transportation services.
Turning to roads, aldermen finalized the list Monday night for which neighborhood streets will be repaired throughout the city, using sales tax money.
"We passed the one percent sales tax, this will be our first full year of funding that sales tax, and this will be our opportunity to demonstrate we are listening to our citizens, we're fixing the potholes, but more than that we're really presenting and preparing a great pathway for the future," says Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey.
City leaders also say they got a good deal on the more than 12-million dollars in bonds they sold Monday. The sale will pay for improvements to Rockford's water system, help some local businesses expand and buy a parking deck from the Metrocentre.
