The Christ United Methodist church said good-bye to family and friends and hello to the true meaning of fellowship. The cars are loaded and along with the supplies the excitement is mounting. You see not one of the 30 volunteers from Christ United Methodist church now what they will have to do when they arrive in Laurel, Mississippi. But they don't care.

Reverend Dick Wisdom says, “We want to help in anyway that we can so they know that they are not alone. That they have people who love and care for them many of which they've never seen before and never will again."

This is a unique group with various strengths. There is a pastoral team, labor team and a medical team. And don't forget about the support team that is staying here in Illinois. But volunteers say it's those familiar faces at home that will be remembered when times are tough or when a hurricane victims smiles after receiving a supply we take for granted.

Director of Youth and Children Ministries Laura Whidstrom says, “The church has been great they have flooded us with supplies our trucks are full and overflowing and prayer support great."

Christ United Methodist volunteers are partnering with other churches in Mississippi. They will sleep at their congregation and at least have a roof over their head. But it's going to be a week filled with little sleep and lots of work. The volunteers are expected to return next Monday.
