"I'm overwhelmed at how wonderful this is...I feel very lucky."
For 12 months, Staff Sgt. Hank Melton was stationed in Iraq and thousands of miles away, 150 employees at Bacon's Information Services had Sgt Melton in their hearts and on their minds.
"They got my name from someone, somehow. The ladies started writing me letters. When I came home, I came by to thank them, and they have continued to stay in touch with me."
"When Hank stopped in June, we discussed that we wanted to have a potluck for any soldiers that can make it, so this is one of many we'll have," says Jamie Young.
Sgt. Melton was also presented with a clock inscribed with the words “land of the free...because of the brave.”
"These people who don't even know him, care enough to send him letters just to boost his morale and tell him they're thinking of him--and saying thank you in their own way...that was very cool," says Sgt. Melton's wife, Vicky.
"He has a way with words and there were several times I received letters that I just started crying because he would call us his angels and his heroes, it totally blew me away," says Young.
"I hope that there are more things like this, and other guys are as lucky as I am," says Melton.
