Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she plans to propose legislation that would place tougher controls on selling ingredients that make methamphetamine in stores.

Madigan wants Illinois to adopt a law similar to the one in Iowa which makes stores keep ephedrine and pseudoephedrine or PSE behind pharmacy counters. Customers who wish to purchase the products need to display a photo ID and sign a log. Illinois law already requires placing adult-strength cold tablets containing ephedrine or PSE as their only active ingredient behind store counters. The law also limits buying two packages of cold tablets per transaction.
