Residents across the northern Gulf Coast spent Saturday making
final preparations or heading out of town in advance of Hurricane Dennis.
Evacuations were ordered for nearly 1.4 million people across
Mississippi, Alabama and Florida meaning long lines at the gas stations
While many residents headed out of town, local emergency management officials continued to track Dennis. Those residents planning to ride Dennis out at home worked against Mother Nature's deadline to batten up their homes and businesses. Many are storm weary after Hurricane Ivan's destruction just ten months ago.
Dennis skirted Key West earlier today, knocking out power and causing
minor damage. It's expected to make landfall somewhere between Biloxi,Mississippi and Panama City Beach, Florida Sunday afternoon as a category three hurricane.
