Janesville's unemployment numbers could be on the rise if General Motors closes its plant.

Nearly a quarter of Janesville's 32,000 workers are involved in manufacturing. More than 5,100 work for GM or its suppliers.

Last week the automaker announced it would be closing plants and eliminating 25,000 jobs over the next three years.

Many analysts are eyeing the Janesville plant because it produces an aging line of sport utility vehicles and demand for those vehicles is dropping, but GM did say last year it would spend $175 million on new equipment and renovations at the Janesville plant for next-generation SUVs.

The trucks are due to roll out next year.
