Family Violence Numbers Are Improving

A report released Sunday shows the rate dropping by more than a half from 1993 to 2002.

That's good news to Esta Soler, the president of the Family Violence Prevention Fund. She says programs funded by the Violence Against Women Act are working, but she's concerned that date violence isn't included, and often family violence isn't reported.

The report says the rate of family violence dropped between 1993 and 2002 from an estimated 5.4 victims per thousand people to just over two victims. The study included people 12 years old and older.

The report says the drop reflects a general decline in crime against people during that same time.
