The Department of Defense says Master Sergeant Michael L. McNulty of Knoxville, Tennessee was killed Friday by small arms fire when his unit was attacked in Al Qaim, Iraq.
He was assigned to U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
McNulty enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school in Elgin in 1986.
McNulty is survived by his wife Paula and four children. The family issued a statement Tuesday thanking friends and the members of the military for their support and sympathy.
