A house fire late Monday closed a part of State Street.
The fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. at 2408 east State Street. Fire officials say an elderly woman and her five-year-old grandchild were in the house but escaped unharmed.
The grandmother told police she thought she saw her grandchild playing with a lighter before the blaze started, the fire caused parts of east State Street to be blocked off from Welty to Shaw, about two blocks those streets have reopened.
The damage to the house is estimated at about $80,000.
