Yo-Yo Ball Ban

Sales of a stretchy toy called the "yo-yo waterball" would be banned in Illinois under a bill passed this week by the Illinois House.

The popular drugstore toy is a liquid-filled rubber ball attached to a rubbery, sticky cord. Some consumer safety groups and parents say the cord is a suffocation hazard for children.

The Illinois House voted 108 to three Thursday to ban it. The Senate approved the measure unanimously last month, and it now goes to Gov. Rod Blagojevich's desk for his consideration.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, at least 186 incidents have been reported of children getting the toy's cord wrapped around their necks. The commission issued a warning in September saying there is "a low but potential risk" to children who play with the toy, but it didn't ban sales.
