Residents Clean House for Metal Drive

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) -- Dozens of spring-cleaners found a spot to dump their unwanted metal items.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful hosted their annual spring metals and electronics drive. The group is taking in everything from scrap to lawnmowers, and even old patio furniture. The organization says today's event is just one of many aimed at improving neighborhoods and recycling resources.

Lori Gummow, director, says "Even small homes such as myself, we end up with things like gutters and hangers and we don’t want to put them at the curb, we want to recycle them."

A new state law has banned the disposal of monitors, laptops, and printers from landfills.
