The Keye Mallquist Neighborhood Watch wasn’t the only grassroots group in action earlier Sunday morning. In fact, dozens more came together for a unique grand opening, bringing city neighbors together as one.

Leaders of 25 neighborhood watch groups in the Neighborhood Network Alliance announced the opening of the storefront on 7th Street.

Each Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. the storefront is open for neighborhood leaders to provide ideas and concerns on making their streets safer and stronger.

With summer fast approaching, leaders are excited about a steady stream of input and neighborhood activism.

"We'd like to promote what's going on in the neighborhoods, because there's a lot going on. There's a lot of cleanups going on throughout the Rockford neighborhoods; there's beautification projects," Lori Gustafson says.

The Rockford neighborhood storefront idea is similar to an alliance in Memphis, Tennessee.
