The Aurora businessman is kicking off a three-day tour of Illinois Thursday to announce his candidacy for next year's race. He says he offers the people of Illinois a chance for change and a respite from what he calls "the job-killing policies of increased taxes and fees."

Oberweis scheduled stops Thursday in Rockford, Chicago, Aurora and Bolingbrook. He'll also visit the Quad Cities, Peoria, Springfield, Northbrook, Marion and Vienna Friday and Saturday.

The 58-year-old's last venture into politics was a run for the U.S. Senate last year. He came in second in the GOP primary to Jack Ryan and gained attention for campaign ads denouncing illegal immigrants for taking American jobs.
