The Harlem School District is hoping some of the success of the Rockford School District rubs off on them. For the third straight year, the school board will put a referendum on the ballot in the April 2003 election.

The Harlem School District is proposing to increase taxes by 50-cents to support school staffing costs. Voters have rejected two previous referendums.

Because of that, the district has cut several programs, including the red ribbon campaign and the high school jazz band. A person owning a house valued at $100,000 would pay an additional $167 to the school district if the April referendum passes.
