The battle to keep two Rockford motels shutdown for the next year got underway the city shut down the six penny inn and Rockford motel in October because of prostitution, drug trafficking, and a high number of police calls.
Last July Rockford Police met with Six Penny Inn and Rockford motel owners to outline plans for the properties to be cleaned up.
In court Tuesday, police testified the owners directed managers to violate guidelines set in that meeting, because it would cost the company money.
Two weeks ago the city condemned both properties citing hundreds of building, health and safety violations. A decision on a yearlong shutdown of the motels is expected by Thursday.
