The Sheriff's Office in Seminole, Florida, says Michael Mitchell of Rockford entered a business called Randall's Firearms Thursday with a box cutter and tried to steal a gun.
Department spokeswoman Marianne Pasha says Mitchell told deputies he wanted to "take some action" after he visited the hospice where Schiavo lives.
The feeding tube that's kept the brain damaged woman alive for more than a decade was removed March 18 over objections from her parents. Schiavo's husband says his wife wouldn't want to be kept alive.
Mitchell is charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault and criminal mischief. Seminole is northwest of Tampa.
