Roundabout Public Meeting Draws Differences of Opinion

In future years, clogged lanes and one-way traffic signals on North Main and Auburn would be replaced by one circular traffic flow.

But since state funding isn't finalized, business owners continue voicing their opinions both for and against a roundabout.

Members in the North End Commons Business Association and Rockford city alderman voted in favor of a modern roundabout at Auburn and Main.

State developers believed the roundabout was the best choice to handle traffic and spur new development.

To make room, nearly a half dozen businesses would be taken out, which has some owners concerned the plan was rushed through.

Others in the north end argue they've done their homework, and say it's time to make a roundabout a top state priority.
