Rockford Mayor Doug Scott will play a key role in setting up the administration and agenda for Illinois’s newly election governor.
Rod Blagojevich named Scott to his transition advisory team after delivering his victory speech Tuesday night.
Mayor Doug Scott and Rod Blagojevich have been political allies since serving together in the state legislature. Now Scott is eager to help Illinois’s new governor move into the office.
"It's good for us. It's exciting. It will give us a connection to Springfield and I think it will play out for the entire term for Gov. Blagojevich,” says Mayor Scott.
Scott advises Blagojevich on secretary and cabinet level appointments and setting priorities and policies.
"So in January Rod can move quickly,” adds Scott.
Despite rumors, Scott says he won't leave his post for high-level state job.
"I have two and a half years left on my term and I’m committed to finishing that out,” says Scott.
Democratic leaders say Scott’s role will benefit the city of Rockford and the stateline.
Scott says he'll have time to help Blagojevich and perform his duties as mayor.
