Soon condos and new residential homes could stand on the site of the old River Oaks community in Rockford. The city tore down the River Oaks buildings on South Main Street Thursday.
The low cost senior housing community shut down three years ago and has been vacant ever since.
After demolition and cleanup are complete, a contractor will likely start rebuilding the area.

Public hearings are required before the site is designated a special taxing district. This step is necessary for the project to move forward.
