There are 17,000 immigrants in Winnebago County. Many of them came to the country illegally and have little, if any, rights.
But in downtown Rockford Wednesday night, a group of people got to hear about possible solutions from a man who has already made a difference in immigrant rights.
Josh Hoyt leads the State Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. He feels that if these people are good enough to come to the U.S. to work, they should have more rights.
Josh Hoyt says immigrants are easily overlooked.
About 85 percent of undocumented workers get taxes taken out of their paychecks, yet most do not have health insurance or driver's license - and not one can go to college.
Hoyt is asking people in Rockford to contact Congressman Don Manzullo, so he can better understand the plight of these immigrants and speak up for them.
