Hindu temples throughout the Chicago area will hold prayer vigils and services for the victims of the tsunami in South Asia last weekend.
Temples in Bensenville, Lemont, Bartlett and other Chicago suburban communities will hold vigils Sunday for the victims. Other religion groups also have been praying for the tsunami's victims.
During prayers Friday at the Islamic Cultural Center in Northbrook, spiritual leader Imam Senad Agic urged people to donate gifts to the survivors of the tsunami during Eid-ul-Adha on January 20.
The number of dead from last Sunday's earthquake and tsunami in South Asia is toll is likely to hit 150,000, and officials estimate several million people lack clean water, shelter, food, sanitation and medicine.
