The body of 69-year-old Mary Ann Clibbery was found around seven this morning. A co-worker made the discovery inside Al Zullo's home remodeling. Clibbery was co-owner of the business on North 2nd Street in Loves Park.
Mary Ann Clibbery…one of the nicest people they ever met; that's how co workers are remembering the 69-year-old - found murdered in her Loves Park store Wednesday morning.
"If you needed somebody to talk to or if you needed a friend - she was the one. She had a lot of love for everybody," says Co-Worker Clayton Drought.
"I just can't believe anyone would do this to her," adds Mike Chrastie, who also worked with Clibbery.
Just how Clibbery was killed inside Al Zullo's is still unknown. The coroner's office says only that she died of severe trauma:
"She had a coat and gloves on and she was laying face down with severe trauma to her head," says Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fidduccia.
Police believe the incident happened last night, as Clibbery was leaving to head home. They say there are no signs of a break-in.
The investigation, however, continued all day. Police and fire fighters searched inside, outside as well as on the rooftop for clues:
"Looking for any evidence that might tell us a story about what happened last night," says Loves Park Police Deputy Chief Jim Puckett.
But the incident has left those who knew Clibbery stunned. Co-worker Mike Chrastie spent much of the day remembering the last thing she said to him:
"Have a beautiful day... that was it - that was the last time I saw her."
Police are urging anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious last night to call the department or Crimestoppers. They're hoping to have more information tomorrow morning when an autopsy is performed.
