A young boy's trip to a friend's house almost turned fatal after a Saturday night hit and run. Fourteen-year-old Corey Kallenbach of Roscoe was riding a small motor scooter on Route 173 near the Rock Cut State Park entrance.
He was struck and then dragged by an eastbound vehicle that continued driving away from the scene. A passer-by found the boy and he was airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Corey underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition. Loves Park police are looking for what they believe to be a white car.
