The entertainment world is mourning the loss of one of its biggest stars. Colleagues and admirers are expressing their admiration for the man often called “the king of late night television.”

Since his retirement in 1992, Carson has kept out of the public eye, but just last week, a former producer revealed that Carson was still providing jokes for late night TV. He said Carson would come up with jokes after reading the morning paper, and that he would sometimes send them to David Letterman. He said Carson would then get a kick out of hearing Letterman deliver those jokes.

David Letterman, the current host of “The Late Show” you see right here on WIFR, issued this statement.

Letterman says, "It's a sad day for the country. All of us who came after him are pretenders. We will not see the likes of him again. He gave me a shot on his show and in doing so, game me a career. A night doesn't go by that I don't ask myself: what would Johnny have done?"
