Remembering Branden Ramey

Friends and family of Ramey paid their respects at Belvidere High School. His funeral was held Thursday night.

The heart of Belvidere turned out Thursday afternoon to remember Branden Ramey. At least three thousand people turned out for visiting hours. All over town you can see the community's support for Ramey's family.

Last week many people turned out to sign a giant card for his family, and Blackhawk State Bank has started a memorial fund in honor of Branden.

Branden Ramey wore the number one football jersey while playing at Belvidere High School, a number many players shy away from, but off the field Ramey was also a number one son and number one marine who loved his country.

Playing football for four years in high school and going semi-pro for the Belvidere rush helped teach Ramey discipline and commitment while fighting overseas.

The 22-year-old was a student at Rock Valley College where a memorial fund has now been set up to help future students who some day aspire to be history teachers.

Branden Ramey is the son of Pamela and Ed Trevino of Belvidere and Randy Ramey of Madera, California. He's also survived by three brothers and one sister.
