Rockford's planning and development committee met on Thursday to discuss plans for the Barber Colman Village. Their main concern is return.
The committee is discussing plans with Hendrick's development group.
Hendrick's has proposed using the site for a college, retail businesses and possibly apartments.
Alderman Dan Conness wants to make sure the city and surrounding businesses would get back the millions of dollars needed to invest in redeveloping Barber Colman.
Conness plans to hold another meeting next week with the planning and development committee. All of their meetings are open to the public.
