Democrats say they have several advantages in today's voting. President Bush lost here in 2000 and poor poll numbers kept him away from the state this time. That meant less publicity for local Republicans.

And the national popularity of U.S. Senate nominee Barack Obama against Republican import Alan Keyes has Democrats smiling.

Democrats hold a 66 to 52 majority in the House, and 32 Senate Democrats team with one Independent against 26 Republicans.

The House GOP targeted three races in which incumbents were appointed to fill vacancies and hadn't faced voters until Tuesday. Senate Republicans, meanwhile, focused on at least two incumbents they consider vulnerable.
