Some area Rockford public school students have been rewarded for outstanding academic achievement.
Forty-two students at Auburn High School have been named 2005 State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
Selection is based on SAT or ACT scores and students' class ranking at the end of their junior year. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the 137,000 high school seniors in Illinois have been given this honor.
The program does not provide a monetary award. Qualified students are encouraged to list the honor on college applications.
