Rockford police say it happened just before 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night in front of Loredo Liquors on Main Street.

The driver of the car had gone in the store and left the car running with his girlfriend and one-and-a-half-year-old child inside. The car was then approached by a black man who was armed and ordered the woman out. Another black man then forced her out and the two suspects took off in the car.

Nearby residents later spotted the child in the middle of the road unharmed. An hour after the car was stolen a relative spotted the car pulling into the Auburn Manor Apartments. A black man and white woman jumped out and fled on foot.

Police describe the black man as six foot tall, medium build, wearing a black leather jacket. The woman is described as white with blonde hair, five foot four, 120 pounds also wearing a black leather jacket.
