WASHINGTON (WIFR) -- A new group of lawmakers starts work today in Washington. The winners of November’s election were sworn in this morning, including our local reps, Democrat Cheri Bustos and republican Adam Kinzinger.
The new congress is one of the most diverse ever elected, including a record number of women. However, the legislators will be fighting the same old fights.
In the coming months, they'll have to tackle spending cuts, the debt limit and gun control.
There are high hopes for the 113th congress, especially since the last batch of lawmakers passed just 151 bills, the fewest in 65 years.
