An early morning garage fire that spread to a neighboring house is being called suspicious.
Rockford firefighters arrived around 2 a.m. Tuesday to a fully engulfed garage fire in the 700 block of North Winnebago.
The fire spread to a neighboring two family home that was occupied. The house had no working smoke detectors, but the person inside was awoken by the sounds of the fire and was able to get out safely.
The garage is a total loss and damage is estimated at around $30,000. Firefighters have determined the fire suspicious.
They say they responded to another garage fire earlier in the evening Monday just a few blocks away and are investigating to see if the two are related.
