ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford police has been undermanned for more than four years, but one class of recruits has it almost back to full staff.
Eleven new police officers were sworn in Tuesday to bring the number up to 283, just two shy of the authorized budget. The department dropped from 306 in 2008 and has had a difficult time bringing the numbers back up to what was allotted.
The ceremony also honored three men for saving a woman from the Rock River, as well as, James Martin who passed away in September.
