On Wednesday, Rockford Mayor Doug Scott received a letter from Chicago's commissioner of aviation.
The letter spells out to Rockford airport officials that it wants to help bring in added passenger, cargo and air service to the Greater Rockford Airport.
The open-ended agreement also means that Chicago officials will share marketing tips and give Rockford's airport the heads up about new airlines interested in arriving to the stateline.
RFD executive director Bob O'Brien says though the move is a step in the right direction, local airport leaders will continue to fight hard in their search for new flights and airline opportunities.
