Spokesman Maj. Tim Franklin says Spc. Jessica L. Cawvey of the 1544th Transportation Company based in Paris was killed and two others were seriously injured Wednesday.
Franklin says Cawvey was part of a cargo truck convoy traveling a main supply route when an explosive device was detonated nearby. He says Cawvey lived in Normal and graduated from Mahomet-Seymour High School.
She is the second female Illinois National Guard member to die in combat in Iraq. Franklin says he cannot release the identities or conditions of the injured soldiers.
