Polls from around the nation show Kerry as the overall winner in the first presidential debate, giving him the edge over President Bush. In the first poll taken since the first presidential debate, Democrat John Kerry is running even with Bush after having trailed him in the same survey last month.
The Newsweek poll says Kerry had the support of 47 percent of those questioned and bush, 45 percent. That's a statistical dead heat. Independent candidate Ralph Nader had two percent.
