The tollway board approved the plan at its meeting Thursday, after hearing from about 30 people during a public comment period.

The overhaul includes the rebuilding of 274 miles of roadway. The tollways will be reconfigured for I-PASS users, but drivers without I-PASS transponders still will be able to pay at tollbooths off to the side.

Under a revision in the plan originally proposed by Gov. Rod Blagojevich, low income residents will be able to buy I-PASS transponders at a discount, $20 instead of the $50 other motorists pay.
