Local Rockford workers got backing today from a congressman to ensure they help build Rockford's new federal courthouse.
Congressman Don Manzullo visited the city today to promote the local labor. The congressman talked about how the courthouse project would boost Rockford's sluggish economy. Planners say construction on the new courthouse is set to begin in 2004. The $52 million project would create about 500 to 1,000 jobs for the next two years.
Manzullo says since Rockford taxpayers are footing the bill, he'll hold a congressional hearing if local workers are not used.
