In a Tuesday morning news conference, the museum's board of directors urged voters of Boone County to approve a referendum that would make the museum a taxing body.

The museum tax would cost about $10.00 a year for owners of a Boone County home valued at $150,000.

If the referendum passes, the museum board will be able to hire full-time help, keep the doors open for additional hours and upgrade the existing facility.

"In the future if the referendum passes, we would like to build another building adjacent to this building that will house everything we have now and be able to offer us the opportunity to bring in more items as they come available to us," said museum board member, Jerry Rowe.

Board members plan to send mailings out to the voters and speak at least twice a week at civic organizations to encourage voters to pass the referendum.
